Thank you for visiting the ISTANBUL in/+LEEDS website.
ISTANBUL in/+LEEDS is an extension of the education programme of the 14th Istanbul Biennial which runs from 5 September to 1 November 2015 across many sites of the city of Istanbul.
Drafted by Carolyn Christov-Bakargiev, the concept for the 14th Istanbul Biennial is
SALTWATER: A Theory of Thought Forms.
Griselda Pollock of the School of Fine Art, History of Art & Cultural Studies at the University of Leeds has been invited to be an advisor to the 14th Istanbul Biennial’s SALTWATER: A Theory of Thought Forms.
Griselda Pollock is contributing to the education programme of the 14th Istanbul Biennial during the exhibition in Istanbul. She has also created this preparatory programme based in Leeds to work with two centres for contemporary art exhibition and critical thinking: The PAVILION and The TETLEY. She has developed two models for this work: Reading with… and Making with…. The aim is to have insight into the work of contemporary artists involved in the 14th Istanbul Biennial project: SALTWATER: A Theory of Thought Forms, while also preparing through engagement with critical readings and lectures that enlarge upon the concepts of thought forms as well as the meaning and history of the city of Istanbul.
ISTANBUL in/+LEEDS has been supported by the Cultural Creative Industries Exchange at the University of Leeds.
The project involved three events in Leeds between April and June ( see events and recordings) and an exhibition at the Leyden Gallery in London (exhibitions)
